Winter Chill

It’s been pretty cold here in the Northwoods the past few days…but that means beautiful frost crystals! ;)

Welcome Elise!

On January 9, 2012 our family welcomed little Elise Nicole into the world — she has been such a blessing already! Of course I haven’t been able to resist taking lots of pictures of her and below I have shared some of my favorites from her first week of life. :)

Best of Sarah Hall Photography 2011

As I eagerly await the birth of my second child (any day now!), I find myself reflecting back on the year 2011…what a great year it was! I want to thank all my clients for inviting me to photograph their special memories–I had a blast and consider 2011 to have been a wonderful success! In looking back I decided to choose a set of my personal favorites and you can enjoy them below, in no particular order. :)

Microscopic Ice

Some of these ice formations I shot this morning look like tiny little organisms one might examine under a microscope–so cool! :)

Forces of Nature

The sun and the ice–two competing forces that, at just the right moment, join together to create some of the most beautiful and intense displays of nature’s extremes. Enjoy my set of subzero images from this morning at sunrise. :)

West Coast Highlights – San Francisco

Some of you may know that Nick and I took a recent trip out to the west coast. We flew in to southern Oregon, drove down the northern California coast, and ended our adventures in San Francisco. I thought I would do a series of posts highlighting the awesome places we visited!

Our last leg of the trip found us in the fun city of San Francisco. I actually left my camera behind for much our time there, but I did take a few random pictures – enjoy!

This last shot I took from the plane on the flight home:

Our favorite spot in Yosemite was probably Tuolumne Meadows, a subalpine paradise along the Tioga Road in the northern portion of the park. We were able to see some spectacular views and hike a little in the backcountry — all on a day with perfect weather, not to mention awesome clouds. :)

West Coast Highlights – Yosemite National Park | Mariposa Grove

While we did see a lot of amazing redwood trees in northern California, we also had the opportunity to gaze upon a grove of giant sequoias in the southern part of Yosemite National Park. These trees are quite a bit different than redwoods–they are not as tall, but tend to get much wider at the base. I loved how the bark was  very russet in color.

One of the most spectacular views in Yosemite National Park is found at Glacier Point. This scenic overlook rises a few thousand feet above Yosemite Valley, giving you a bird’s-eye view of the valley, several waterfalls, and amazing mountain scenery. It also puts you face to face with majestic half dome. It was quite breathtaking!

When we planned our trip we didn’t know whether we would make it to Yosemite National Park due to unpredictable October weather in the mountains. Case in point, there was a winter storm warning in the park 2 weeks prior to when we visited! Fortunately, the weather turned unseasonably warm with highs in the upper 70′s and it was absolutely gorgeous. Our first major stop in this large park was Yosemite Valley.
